Overview

What it does.

In a crossflow tower, air moves horizontally through the fill while water falls vertically through it. The distribution basin sits open at the top, which is the practical advantage: nozzles and fill can be inspected and cleaned without breaking into pressurised pipework or taking the casing apart.

That matters more than it sounds. A tower that is awkward to inspect does not get inspected, and fouled fill is the most common reason a tower quietly stops meeting its duty.

Selection is against the site’s design wet bulb, not a nominal figure.
