Overview

What it does.

Filters protect the coil, the fan and the occupants, in roughly that order of cost. A blocked filter raises fan energy, starves the coil, and eventually lets the dirt through anyway when the media distorts under pressure.

Grade matters as much as replacement interval. Too coarse and the coil fouls; too fine without a pre-filter and the final filter loads in weeks instead of months. A cheap panel pre-filter in front of an expensive bag filter is almost always the right economics.
