Overview
What it does.
Round spiral duct carries air with less friction and far less leakage than rectangular ductwork, and its rigidity means it needs fewer supports and no cross-breaking. Where it is visible, it also simply looks better exposed than a rectangular run.
The trade is depth: a round duct needs more vertical space than a flat rectangular one of the same area, which is why rectangular still wins in tight ceiling voids.
