Overview

What it does.

The evaporator is where a refrigeration plant either makes its duty or quietly does not. Undersize it and the suction pressure sits low, the compressor runs longer than it should, and the running cost of that decision is paid every day for the life of the plant.

Selection is against refrigerant, approach temperature and fouling factor together. A clean-water duty and a process duty carrying solids need different tube velocities and different cleaning access, even at identical kilowatts.

We supply both shell-and-tube and plate types, and will say which one the duty actually wants — plates are compact and efficient until the fluid fouls them, at which point a shell that opens is worth more than the floor space it costs.
