Overview

What it does.

A shell and tube exchanger is the workhorse of process heat transfer because it scales, tolerates pressure, and can be opened. That last point decides more selections than the first two: a bundle that can be withdrawn is a bundle that can be cleaned, and a fouling service that cannot be cleaned is a service that fails.

We build to the duty rather than to a catalogue size — tube count, pass arrangement, baffle spacing and material selected against flow, pressure drop and the fouling the fluid will actually carry.

Re-tubing an existing shell is often the better economics. If the shell is sound, replacing the bundle restores the duty for a fraction of a new unit, and the connections still line up with the pipework.
